Review Process

Our expert reviewers follow a structured process to ensure content accuracy:

  1. Data verification - Confirm that all cited statistics and nutrient values match USDA source data.
  2. Claim assessment - Verify that health-related statements are supported by peer-reviewed research.
  3. Methodology review - Evaluate whether our processing score methodology accurately reflects the degree of industrial processing.
  4. Consumer clarity - Ensure content is understandable to non-experts without oversimplifying the science.

Reviewed pages display a "Reviewed by" byline with the reviewer's name and credentials. For more about our editorial process, see our Editorial Standards.
