Review Process

Our expert reviewers follow a structured process to ensure content accuracy:

  1. Data verification — Confirm that all cited statistics and nutrient values match USDA source data.
  2. Claim assessment — Verify that health-related statements are supported by peer-reviewed research.
  3. Methodology review — Evaluate whether our processing score methodology accurately reflects the degree of industrial processing.
  4. Consumer clarity — Ensure content is understandable to non-experts without oversimplifying the science.

Reviewed pages display a "Reviewed by" byline with the reviewer's name and credentials. For more about our editorial process, see our Editorial Standards.

Editorial Independence

Our expert reviewers maintain full editorial independence. They are not compensated by food manufacturers, supplement companies, or any entity with a financial interest in the products we analyze.

Reviewers are free to disagree with our methodology or recommend changes to content. Their role is to ensure accuracy and scientific rigor — not to endorse our conclusions.
